At Varsity Travel, our commitment to ensuring the safety of every passenger who boards our motorcoach buses is unwavering. We understand that providing safe transportation is a significant responsibility, and we take this duty very seriously. That’s why we go the extra mile to ensure that every single bus in our fleet meets the highest safety standards.

One of the key ways we uphold this commitment is through rigorous inspections conducted by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA). We are proud to invite CVSA to our Winchester location multiple times a year to perform comprehensive inspections on all of our buses. These inspections are not just routine check-ups; they are meticulous examinations designed to ensure that every aspect of our vehicles is in prime condition for the safe transport of our passengers.

What the CVSA Inspections Involve:

The CVSA inspections adhere to the North American Standard Level II Walk-Around Driver/Vehicle Inspection Procedure. Here’s a detailed look at what these inspections cover:

**1. Driver Documentation:** Inspectors verify that all drivers possess valid licenses, Medical Examiner’s Certificates, and Skill Performance Evaluation (SPE) Certificates if applicable. They also ensure compliance with regulations regarding alcohol and drugs and check driver records to confirm adherence to hours of service regulations.

**2. Vehicle Inspection Reports:** Any previous vehicle inspection reports are reviewed to ensure ongoing compliance and to address any past issues.

**3. Brake Systems and Safety Equipment:** The integrity of the brake systems is scrutinized, and all essential safety equipment, including seat belts and emergency exits, is thoroughly inspected.

**4. Structural and Functional Components:** Inspectors check the condition of coupling devices, driveline/driveshaft, exhaust systems, frames, fuel systems, and steering mechanisms. They also evaluate the suspension systems, tires, wheels, rims, and hubs for wear and safety.

**5. Lighting and Visibility:** Proper functioning of lighting devices—such as headlamps, tail lamps, stop lamps, and turn signals—is ensured to maintain high visibility and safety on the road. Windshield wipers are also tested to ensure they provide clear visibility in adverse weather conditions.

**6. Cargo and Vehicle Body:** For vehicles transporting cargo, securement methods are checked. In passenger-carrying vehicles, the condition of seating, electrical systems in engine and battery compartments, and compliance with hazardous materials (HM/DG) requirements are examined as applicable.

Why These Inspections Matter:

These inspections are crucial not only for compliance but for the assurance of safety. They ensure that every vehicle is in optimal condition to handle the demands of transporting passengers. By adhering to these rigorous standards, Varsity Travel demonstrates its dedication to providing a safe and reliable transportation service.

Each inspection reinforces our standards and helps us maintain the highest level of vehicle performance. It also provides an opportunity to address any potential issues before they become problems, ensuring that our buses are always ready to provide a safe journey.
